Poker Terms- Letter A & H

Poker has brought into the world a lot of terms that would be strange to those who are not familiar with poker. Listed and defined here are some poker terms that start with the letter A, and others with the letter H.

Action button - this corresponds to a button which serves as a marker on the roles of the players at the poker table. In Texas Hold'em poker, an example of this is the dealer button.

Add-on - in poker, this is also known as rebuy. This act is done before all your chips have gone, right in the middle of a game. You do this so you could play more rounds. Some poker tournaments allow one add-on per game, but other poker tournaments do not allow this at all.

Aggressive - this is a type of poker player who generates more action than anybody else in the poker table. It is the opposite of a passive player. He raises or reraises most of the time.

All in - in poker, this means that a player bets all of his chips to the pot.

Ammo, ammunition - this are your poker chips that you are using in play. If a player wants more poker chips, he may say he needs more ammunition.

Hammer - in Texas Hold'em poker, this is a 7-2 hand, not suited. This is considered by many to be the worst hand in Texas Hold'em poker.

Hard - also another term for an aggressive poker player. A player who's aggressive all throughout a game is considered to have played hard.

Here kitty kitty - this happens when a poker player place a bet rather smaller than he should have with the kind of good hand he has. A poker player does this to entice his opponents to call, because he does not want them to fold.

High card - in poker, this hand is the highest non-pairing card. For example, you got in your hole cards a king and a 6, then your hand does not form anything with the community cards. Therefore, your king is your high card.

Hole cam - camera that is placed strategically to expose to the viewers what a poker player's hole cards are. Usually, this is placed under the glass area of a poker table, so when the cards are placed there, the camera will see them.

Hollywood - a kind of bluffing in which the poker player acts like a Hollywood actor to deceive his opponents on the real identity of his cards.
